These cancer conferences brings together a collection of physicians, a patient’s clinical care team, and other experts to discuss next step treatment options. Tumor board members comprise of various backgrounds and expertise that include surgeons, radiologist, pathologist, medical oncologist, radiation oncologists, genetics, research, patient navigators, nurses and other specialists. Although tumor board is available to share and discuss a cancer case at any stage, they are usually prioritized for patients who have exhausted the standard of care and are seeking new treatment options, as well as those with difficult tumor types for which there may not be an easily identified approach of standard of care. Often times, tumor board recommendations are guided by research driven approaches based on peer review articles and new findings supported at accredited national conferences. The objective of our tumor boards is to bring together shared knowledge and provide diverse perspectives than the treating physician alone may have to seek a general consensus of coming up with the best treatment and care plan for the patient.
